I will start by thanking you guys for doing such a great work on the Osiris portal system. It's p2p nature fits nicely and with ease into any community, you start feeling at home when browsing or posting on it. Some of us managed to work our way after one of our members, HostFat, suggested we should try using it right after you launched the 0.15 version.

I encountered some difficulties and have some suggestions to make too so HostFat suggested it's better to post them in here so here i am doing it with newbie status :)

To begin with I can't find a search instance module that will present the user with a search box and will only do the searches in a predefined section. Do you know some way of doing it already or it has to be implemented ?

Osiris has a mirror module i stumbled upon these days and could be very useful if it does what i guess it does. Tried mirroring some menu or text instances with no success, i only get an "invalid id" error and "cannot create object". It works only with sections id's but doesn't show nothing.

Marking the new threads as "read" after you click them may be implemented somehow ? Very useful for the threads a user opened or commented too. It helps a lot to keep up with a large forum.

The link to our portal is http://goo.gl/2PncY

Seen you have a bitcoin donation address so coins are going your way to keep up the good work.
Thanks in advance, Alex

Great, welcome!
Sorry for the delay of my response.

In the "Search module",
- check the "Show search param" under "Other params". This tell to instance to show also the fields to re-define the search, not only the results. All options you set in the instance, will be the default of the query.
- Under "Sections", specify the list of ID, delimited with ";". You can see the ID of a section, with a button "ID" in the Edit page or in the Assistant.

So, can be done. I know that:
- Maybe implement some properties about the layout of query params, mainly to show only the search field.
- We need to implement a "Section Picker".

- Mirror object can mirror all objects except instance.
- A section have a property called "Component", that determine what component treat it and decide how to show the section. The most used is the component "Forum".
I think you mirrored section don't show anything because doesn't have a specific component. A section without a specific component (default) it's only a container.

Some story: "Mirror" was born to allow people to define a "Forum" section, and (with a Mirror Istance) to show it in the home-page.
In a developing version of Osiris, 1.0, this can be avoided, because the "root" section can become a Forum itself.
I don't realize just now what are other useful use of Mirror module. Maybe only to Mirror the same instance in different location/section without copy all properties (like a "Clone" tools).

Yes, maybe possible. I sign it in feature request. Not priority, sorry.

We will work as a "local" information, we can't create a "read view" counter like other CMS, this is another think different from your request.

Sorry again for the delay, please ask anything you want to say.

Ciao!

grazie mille :good: I appreciate all the answers you give Clodo.

Regarding the search function i was looking it looks more like the "quick search" but with a predefined section id, with that we could be able to filter parts of the forum not relevant to the search. Like search only the Italian section on international forum.

The mirror module could be very useful when building content pages that share some instances like menus and others alike, just like you say clone the instance where is needed, edit in one place and have it updated on all other pages automatically.

Btw, thanks for taking my feature request and hope you implement it someway that could enable us to keep up with a large forum.

Happy holidays ppl

Happy new year people

Here again with a small question... you have any plans to release the source code for the portal system ?

Your p2p system is awesome but I feel that most of our members are not very comfortable using it and knowing it has a closed source. There are potential privacy risks and bugs that could lead to unwanted effects in any community because of that.

I would like to know, if it's possible, what do you people need to release the source code and enable us overcome some of our issues. If it is a monetary incentive, you only have to give us a figure and I'm positive that our community will gather the funds and reward you for your time and effort. If it's some other issues then please tell. I will be more than happy to hear your opinions on this.

Kind regards, Alex.

I understand, GPL release is our priority. But we lacks of human resources, i'm currently working on this project, but i have other (also GPL) projects that i manage in my spare time.

Sincerely, the GPL release will be a "marketing feature", i never have a feedback about all sources already released.

As explained in the roadmap, we are working on a 1.0 release, that will have a new "core engine" (that require many work) and will be directly under GPL.

About you issues, i remember a "quick search for a specific section". Maybe i forgot some topics, sorry in this case, a list may be useful for me. Thanks.

Yes. The new core is absolutely the most important thing to develop in order to guarantee portal surviving.

@clodo i think that none are interested to osiris also because his core is not open source... freenet is worse than osiris (very SLOW... and not user friendly) Our best people to reach should be anonymous user... but closed source code don't allow this... they not trust us!(and continue tu use other systems...)
